The Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) properties used to activate SPYKE at set temperatures were discovered while testing corrosion-resistant materials for nosecones on Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). The SMA will last many times longer than the 15-year lifespan of the device. That, combined with SPYKE's compressed gas-powered alarm and durable, long-lasting casing, creates the most reliable, longest lasting, least dependent fire sensing equipment in the world.
